If you only have a shore time in Thailand go to Pattaya (Koh Laan) or Rayong (kok Chan) 1.5 and 2.5 hrs from Bangkok respectively.
Koh Lann very quiet at night, Pattaya not!
Koh Chan about 2 hrs boat and has 50 smaller islands and a lot to do.
