Haircuts

Had interesting haircuts there as well, they start well and then daydream.

If

you ask for ,tat nit noy,cut a little, you should be ok there is

always

the Buddha cut if everything goes wrong.

As for touching the head, touching the head of a Buddhist monk or statue is

very disrespectful, as well as someone you don't know, but families, friends

etc

no problem and hairdressers, otherwise there would be a lot of long

haired Thais and no beauty salons.

A lot of people confuse Buddhist Monks cannot touch the head, not lie

with people who are practicing Buddhism.

Fines and 'contributions' while driving in Thailand

Driving in Thailand can be problematic at the best of times... Recently I was driving over some Mountains following trucks going at 4kmph, overtaking was the only option. I waited for the ---- lines and overtook. Down at the bottom there was a police check stopping ALL cars and saying that they were being fined for overtaking in an unauthorised place ie with the __________ lines. The fine was 1000 baht that had to be paid at the Police station (another 40kms away - and would take at least 3 hrs round trip) or a donation of 400 (would have been 20 to 100 had I been Thai) and I could go on. Protesting my innocence got me to the police station as well so 400 it was, and on I went.

Outrageous....

On the other hand all over the festive period, even the smallest village in rural Thailand has posted at the beginning and end , a lookout post with locals making sure people were in a condition to drive, great idea...If someone was found to be too drunk they called a neighbour to take

them home or offered a hammock to sleep it off, there was free food and

coffee/water at almost all. There was comment that a small bottle of rice whiskey could be donated to the people checking but no one asked for one. . An excellent idea that should be adopted all round.
